Why You Shouldn’t Sell Gold Anywhere But To A Gold Refiner

You have a lot of options when it comes to selling gold but there are a few reasons that you shouldn’t sell gold to somewhere other than a gold refiner. First, the potential for theft is high when selling gold or other valuable items at a flea market, garage sale, or pawnshop. There are often lots of customers milling around at once, and just one or two vendors to watch them, which is the perfect recipe for theft. Unless you have a glass display case or some other secure way of displaying your gold items, selling them in the flea market or garage sale setting is asking for trouble.

Second, most people who shop at flea markets and garage sales are looking for bargains. Whether they are buying your gold items for personal use, or to sell for scrap as many are doing now when gold prices are so high, it is unlikely that many of them are willing to give you fair market price for your gold items. That is why you are better off selling to a gold refiner who pay you between 80-95% of the spot price of gold.
