Tips For Backpacking in Peru

There a few tips for backpacking in Peru that I could give any keen traveler. Firstly make sure you visit this wonderful South American country! Peru has long been one of my favorite places to visit in South America because of the history and the warm welcome you will receive from it’s people. One of the great things about traveling around Peru is the fantastic local bus service that you can use to travel from city to city. It’s best to do this at night where you can get some sleep and be refreshed to get on with the sight seeing the next day. The country is so vast that you’ll thank me for this tip the next morning! Another tip I could give is to make sure you stay in one of the many hostels in Peru as it’s a fantastic way of meeting other like minded backpackers. You may find that they can recommend areas to visit that you weren’t planning to go to. Another tip I would give is to make sure you haggle for absolutely everything in Peru. This goes for bus rides and the cost of the hostel you decide to stay in. If they seem a bit stuffy at first don’t buy it, stick to your guns and they will knock down the price eventually. Any money you save here can go towards you visiting one of the ancient Incan relics that this wonderful country has to offer. Another great tip I would give is to make sure you don’t drink the water in Peru! While in restaurants make sure you eat something that has been cooked as it’s likely that any ingredients have been washed in the local water so by buying only cooked meals will ensure any germs have been killed. Finally, have a great time!
