The importance of fine detail
I was at a museum the other day and wandered into an exhibit about antique furniture. It was really fascinating. There was a particular emphasis on all those great romantic canopy beds, you know the ones, big and ornate with their wooden posts. Some of them were really magnificent, with swathes of really heavy and luxurious material draped all over the place. What really struck me about these bed canopies compared to the modern variety you find around plush hotels these days, was the attention to detail. Obviously these canopy beds were made for royalty and only the best would do, nevertheless it was something else to look up close at the hand embroidered detail. You hardly ever see craftsmanship like that anymore, it was really beautiful.
