Did you know that costume jewelry had its start in the Victorian era? Costume jewelry has had a rich history. It began becoming popular returning the 1930s and 1940s at the height of the retro period. It was characteristic of the style because it had geometric shapes and strong lines. It also was mainly created in bold colors such as black and white. It was popular for this jewelry to be worn with flapper dresses. As time went on costume jewelry still held a place on peoples’ wrists and their necks. During the 1950’s and 60’s costume jewelry took on a style that involved peace, which was represented with flowers and sunbursts. Bright colors were introduced. Costume jewelry is still popular today, people love the throwback to past times.
