DIY Koi Pond Filters: You Can Do It Yourself
If you are looking at a nice project to do yourself, installing DIY koi pond filters is a good choice. These filters work by forcing the water up through a channel. Waste products get caught in the filter, thereby cleaning the water. However, when enough waste accumulates in the filter, the mechanism gets clogged. If it is not cleaned out, the clog causes the filter to spew out dirty water, which then falls back into the pond.
Cleaning koi pond filters is the least fun part of being a responsible koi owner. The filter has to be completely removed from the pond, after which it has to be taken apart. After flushing the entire filter with water, usually from a hose, the filter mechanism should be taken completely apart so that each part can be cleaned. When this is done, the mechanism can be reassembled and put back in the pool.
