Punch Out Acne Scarring

If you’re considering acne scar removal now one method is called punch excision or punch grafting.  Essentially if you have really deep acne scars a local anesthesia will be applied to the area around the acne scars.  Then a biopsy tool will be used to remove the scar tissue without cutting away too much of the surround healthy tissue.  In a very crude explanation like cutting out cookie dough.  Then the tissue will be stitched back together using internal sutures.  If the area is a little larger than sometimes a skin graft is used instead of the stitches.

Don’t freak out when this procedure leaves behind a scar.  This new scar forms under more controlled conditions and will fade with time or any topical creams as prescribed by your doctor.
