Coordinating Silk Ties
Coordinating mens silk ties remains a mystery to some. Some men are overly concerned with “matching” the tie to their shirt or suit. But matching is actually not the goal. It’s coordinating that is important. And I use those terms- match and coordinate- very differently. Matching really refers to something that is the same- the same color, the same pattern, etc. Coordinating, on the other hand, means complimenting.
So when you are bringing your whole outfit together, you want to be sure not to go crazy with the patterns, because that will not coordinate well. A suit that is striped, or houndstooth, or checkered striped, checked will need a shirt that is a solid color and a tie that has a pattern. For a suit that is a solid, you can wear a shirt with a pattern and a patterned tie, so long as the patterns are different.
